You likely have an hour.

Ever felt stuck in the middle of a build, not sure which step to take next?

I’ve been there more times than I can count. The piles of parts, both physical and mental, can seem overwhelming.

But here’s what I’ve learned from my years of diving into restomods.

TAKE IMPERFECT ACTION

Stop waiting for the perfect moment.

We’ve heard to start with small, manageable decisions. Each action builds momentum and confidence, regardless of perfection.

I remember when I replaced the valve cover gaskets on my first car, a 1967 Mustang coupe.

That small win boosted my confidence and kept me moving forward.

Decide on a minor upgrade and complete it. Perfection becomes an enemy when you find yourself piling up inaction.

TRUST YOUR INTUITION

Let your gut lead for once.

Overthinking leads to paralysis. Get quiet, trust your instincts, and act.

Clarity follows action, not the other way around.

When I was working on tucking my 1969 Mustang bumper and giving it the desired .25″ gap all around, I trusted my gut and it turned out better than expected.

Choose a fabrication method that feels right and start.  Adjust as you go.

Which leads us to:

DETACH FROM OUTCOMES

Not all decisions are final. Take a minute to let that sink in.

Embrace the flexibility to change course, reducing pressure and fear.

There were times when I tried new techniques, knowing I could revise them later. I’ve swapped to modern engines with the intent of pulling them out later. Nothing is ruined.

Mod for the permanent or long term but don’t hold your work so closed-minded that you can’t come back to it and improve.

Move it forward doing the best you can.

Experiment with a new technique, knowing you can revise it later.

MONEY HESITATION

“My hesitation is money… I don’t have it.”

Money can be a challenge, but it shouldn’t stop you.

Financial concerns are common, but don’t let them paralyze you.

Seek out used parts, marketplace finds, or trade skills with fellow builders. I’ve often traded skills or hunted for deals on parts to make my projects affordable.

Remember, action breeds clarity and momentum. Start small and build from there.

Overcome mental piles by focusing on one step at a time. Your resourcefulness and creativity will guide you through.
